Is pink eye contagious before the symptoms appear?

Symptoms for pink eye include itchiness, redness, mucus, and watery eyes. Before these symptoms appear, can pink eye spread?

Also, how do I get rid of this contagious disease out of my house? Clean pillow case for sure, but clean it with what soap?

Hopefully, I can prevent my brother from catching this terrible sickness.
Also, if you shower with pink eye, using soap and shampoo, does the disease spread all over the bathtub?
