Back in the 80's, there was a fun trend amongst young girls that was popping up. There were trapper keepers, huge New Kids on the Block button pins, slap bracelets, but most of all-there was Lisa Frank stickers. These stickers were a wallet friendly way of decorating your school supplies, your clothes and even plastering them all over your room. That's what I did! I used to love the stickers that boasted the whole color wheel with every animal and made up creature one could imagine, gracing their self adhesive pages. I used to stare at my sticker collection for hours at a time and whisk my imagination off to dream land. That is why it is my mission to spread the love of the Lisa Frank sticker and make sure everyone gets a hold of these adorable creations. You will see these stickers hold a message of love, imagination and just plain beauty. Hopefully, you'll start a sticker collection too!
If you are a fan of Lisa Frank stickers, than you know that most of her stickers incorporate every color of the rainbow. She always manages to plant a rainbow somewhere in the background of all her stickers too. Rainbows signify hope, love and luck and are a positive symbol in the mythology of many cultures. Not to mention, in recent years the rainbow has become a symbol of pride and acceptance for the gay community. The rainbow truly is an emblem of love and optimism. That is why the artist generously uses it in all of her sticker artwork.
Dancing bears, kissing fish, puppies, penguins, unicorns and bears lovingly standing side by side; these out of the ordinary, often impossible occurrences are the subject of many of Lisa Frank stickers. She manages to succeed while tackling mythical subject matter like this and more. A favorite of mine growing up was the bear with ice cream sticker. Where in the world will you see a bright colored bear eating a rainbow colored ice cream? This is something only Lisa Frank and talented illustrators tackle because they believe in imagination and fantasy. They want to take us to a far off place with their fantasy spaces and in doing so, they encourage our imagination too.
What is beautiful to you? All people have different ideas of beauty. Some people like colored eyes, while other people may love freckles. Lisa Frank sticker art is very stylistic in that she uses the rainbow as her color pallet and paints with an almost cartoon like, child like imagination. Her style is very youthful, bold and bubbly. While some consider beautiful art to be an Impression from Monet, a Cubist piece from Van Gogh or even a Neo Classical painting of John Waterhouse, others find beauty and enjoyment from a Lisa Frank sticker. While Lisa Frank is not as famous, I believe she has brought a beauty and artistry to a contemporary art world in a most youthful way. She has captured the essence of a child's dream and filled it with colors that represent love and hope. What could be more beautiful than that?
Have I convinced you yet? Well, here is a run down of the brilliance of Lisa Frank stickers. Lisa Frank is a contemporary artist with a positive message-you don't see that too often. She embraces the extreme, such as dreams and absurdity in an appealing and fantastical like manner. She encourages her viewers to imagine with her. Finally, she has taken red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet and uses them to paint on a canvas of love and optimism. This artist literally paints the rainbow and with it explores the myths that we only dare to dream about as a child. These stickers were daring, adorable and important in the 80's and the same goes for today. So whenever you get an opportunity, make sure to check out the art work of Lisa Frank on her cheaply priced, easy to use, fun to have stickers.
