Hit a brick wall, need some help from real punks?
Recently I seem to have hit a brick wall in terms of what I'm listening to, which has recently been punk. I went through the basics of first proto punk (e.i., the VU, Stooges, MC5, etc) then first wave (e.i. Ramones, Television, the Clash) then hardcore (e.i. Black Flag, Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys) and tried to get into some New wave (Elvis Costello mostly) and didn't really like it and i've been trying to get some new music, any advice? please no shitty pop-punk or new shit like NOFX or Pennywise, because, while everyone is entitled to their opinion, that shit just plain sucks.
to pretty vacant and we don't care: I actually have all of that stuff, with the exception of a few bands such as Operation Ivy which i already know I don't like, but thank you, pretty good list all in all
To the other guy: both those bands suck and are not punk, get lost.
another quick note, against me and bad religion are just as bad as NOFX and all that shit
I lived through the era in real time, so here are some bands we were listening to (other than the Ramones) that you may or may not have heard of:
Human Sexual Response
Root Boy Slim
The Tourists (featuring Annie Lennox singing in her higher register)
Talking Heads "Pulled Up" was the danciest song they ever did, I still love it, it never gets old.
I always preferred Nick Lowe to Elvis Costello. But that is definitely in the pop realm.
You might want to go back in time to glam rock. T-Rex, Be Bop Deluxe, etc. Some very underrated music there.
