Why are movies double sided?
Why can women flash their chest and run around in a skimpy thong but guy's never show anything in movies? I don't want to sound like a pervert wanting porn but I am just wondering why there is a double standard for showing things in movies. Does anyone else see this as sexist and unequal?
Part of it is the American culture. Because men typically can work or go about without a shirt,no one thinks twice about a bare-chested man in a film. Since women don't typically go bare chested in our culture, it becomes erotic to those who find female breasts so. And yes, it becomes a selling point.
As for below the waist, the American culture seems much more acceptable with female than male. Showing male genitals is still iffy with the ratings board. Don't know why this is but I would say some of has it to male actors being uncomfortable with appearing nude. Here's this big superhero, what if he doesn't measure up to whatever women (or anyone else) expect? Male and female butts seem open season, though.
European films seem far more equal and comfortable when it comes to nudity. I think the the States will eventually catch up.
