Depends on what style of music you are playing. Classical acoustic guitar has a lot of picking however if you are just backing a song then strumming an acoustic is the norm. Same with electric. The electric guitar is a powerful solo instrument hence a lot of picking but during the verse of number they will strum unless there is a catchy lick which runs through the whole thing (e.g. G&R's Sweet Child of Mine). A lot of bands (e.g. AC/DC) tend to have two electric guitarists with one playing rhythm (strumming) and the other on lead/solo (picking). Singer/songwriters who play acoustic or electro-acoustic rarely solo or pick and if their song requires it they have an electric guitarist to do the solo work. So as far as discipline is concerned classical acoustic and solo electric are both about quits (e.g. multiple finger picking etc.on classical acoustic vs hammer on/hammer off, pick technique etc. on electric). When it comes to plain strumming on either not a great deal of discipline required unless you are doing cute stuff whereby you are integrating solo embelishment onto a chord sequence then once again the same discipline applies to both. In short it depends on how complicated the music that you are playing is although the playing techniques differ between the two types of guitar.
