Home cinema equip near microwave?

Hi Guys,

Just a quick question, if you dont mind...

Is it safe to have home cinema equipment (lcd tv, av receiver, consoles, blu ray etc) near a microwave?
Might sound a daft question, but the wall my av gear is going on (only really place for it) is the wall joining to the kitchen wall where my microwave is. They would not be on the same plug or anything like that though..

Is this likely to be okay? Again, sorry if its a silly question but I am not exactly an expert at these things, my brain just says 'if it can cook a jacket spud it cant do my telly much good'

My first comment is that there is no such thing as a stupid question. In short, I do not believe you are putting anything at risk by proximity to a microwave. A microwave operates at a very very high frequency. While it is possible for that frequency to interfere with wireless transmission ( like a cordless phone ) there are no components in your AV system that are close to the high frequency of the microwave. Further, the components in your AV system are wired together not wireless. So the potential for HF radio interference being inducted into your AV system is almost nothing.
Most likely the AC outlets on either side of the wall are on the same circuit. So even though they are not plugged into the same outlet I suspect they do share the same circuit. This can cause some trouble in that the microwave can create line noise on the AC power. If you are using inexpensive ( poorly made ) components, they can produce a Hum or Buzz while the microwave is running, But even this should not damage the AV hardware.
