Gift ideas for a guy to carry around all the time?

I am going to spend the summer studying abroad, and I would really like to get my boyfriend a little something that he can carry around always, like a key chain or something, that I can engrave. I want to get him something with either a globe or clock, so I can say something super corny, like "No matter where we are, you're in my heart" or something like that. But I can't find anything just right. I need ideas of things a 20 year old guy can always carry around or just some special ideas.

I also don't want something his friends would make fun of us for or think we were totally lame, so no heart things.

He already has a picture of the two of us in his room, from a previous gift, so I don't want something else in his room, just something that he can carry around always.

And I don't want to get him an engraved lighter, even though he could use it, because his friends would probably take it on accident.

Or you could get him a promise ring. It doesn't have to mean anything big unto the future...the promise can be anything you want it to be. You could get the ring engraved and then write a letter explaining your promise to him.
