The late 1970 years saw a great popularity boost in the the purchase and sales of vintage posters of all kinds. At that time many vintage poster collectors demonstrated a lot of interest in artistic posters, such as those created by Jules Cheret and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. The art deco period prints also saw a rise in popularity at that time.

Subject Popularity
The value of poster is somewhat dependent on the popularity of the subject of that poster. Some poster subjects are influenced by the time period they were made. The topic is also influenced by the interest of the collector. An old car enthusiast would be likely to collect vintage car posters, while a movie buff would prefer posters that advertised favorite films.
Scarcity
A print that was created in a limited edition or is a one of a kind can be very costly. Unless the prints are signed and numbered it is frequently difficult to determine the number of a print that were originally made. Detailed research is critical, when considering the purchase of a very rare vintage poster. When considering the purchase of a rare print, it is wise to consult an expert in that type of print, before making the purchase. Prints created before the 20th century were done in a technique called "stone lithography." That technique was very complex and those prints are usually one of a kind only and hard to come by.
Condition
Excellent care of a print will increase its value considerably. A poster with vibrant colors and no signs of wear are of greatest worth. Usually these posters have been carefully framed and preserved. A vintage poster collector must know how to evaluate a poster to determine its worth. Although there are more considerations in accessing the value of vintage posters, we have briefly briefly discussed three contributing factors, subject popularity, poster scarcity, and poster condition.
