submarine service: is it really that dangerous?
so i was looking through old war photo's, as well as current bonuses for sign-ups, but the sign bonus for submariner is almost twice as much as a marine, but isn't a marine twice as likely to die than a submariner?
what makes the submarine job so dangerous? I mean, accidents are rare, right?
how about the submarine naval officers? also a boring career for them?
It's not dangerous. It sucks. It is the most boring, mind-numbing and depressing thing you can do in the military. It is total isolation. The bonuses are high because they can't get people to stay without them. I was offered E-5 and $60,000 dollars to stay on for another five years, no way. It is not exciting, ever. I've been in the Army for 3 years now and it is so much better than being on a GD submarine. Steel ships, Iron men? BS! I haven't been shot at yet, but I'm pretty sure I'd rather have bullets cracking over my head than ever go on a submarine again.
