Picture Frame - How to Wire the Back of a Large Metal Frame?
I have framed a huge poster (80" x 41") with a metal frame and plexiglass. It hangs from a horizontal wire run between the two side legs. When hanging on the wall, the rear edges of the metal sides are being pulled in toward the center of the artwork because the frame is so heavy.
I think there is a way to run wire across the back of the frame to prevent this but I'm not sure how. Right now, in addition to the wire for hanging, there is one vertical wire running from the top leg to the bottom leg but it is not doing the job. Is there a better way? Should I be using some sort of brace between the side legs instead?
I tried searching the internet for instructions but found absolutely nothing about this topic....must have been searching for the wrong words....help! Thank you.
Just to clarify....the frame is 80" tall and 41" wide.
We do custom picture framing in our business. It sounds like the wire just needs to be reinforced & readjusted. You have to disassemble the frame, and add two more horizontal wire holders (slide them into the back slots). Attach wire to the holders, the you space them about 7" apart, and reassemble the frame. Then attach the center of both wires, with heavy gauge tape or wire, and hang.
Make sure that you also have felt bumpers on both sides of the base. Also, check the hang - if the wires are too far in the center, it will tip too far forward.
